The new Subaru Outback offers two engine options: a standard 2.5-liter SUBARU BOXER® engine producing 180 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque and a turbocharged 2.4-liter BOXER® engine with 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired with Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, delivering optimal stability and control in all driving conditions. The Lineartronic® CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) enhances fuel efficiency and smooth acceleration, while paddle shifters in higher trims provide a more engaging driving experience. Subaru's horizontally opposed engine design contributes to a lower center of gravity, improving handling and safety. Together, these systems ensure the Outback is equally capable on city streets, highways, and rugged trails.

The 2026 Outback's exterior design blends rugged capability with modern styling, more aggressive "shield" grille and vertically stacked LED headlights. With up to 9.5 inches of ground clearance on the Wilderness trim, the Outback is ready for challenging off-road environments. Roof rails with integrated retractable crossbars add versatility for transporting gear like kayaks or bikes, and the Wilderness trim includes matte black accents for a more rigid look. Inside, the cabin is spacious, with ample legroom and headroom for all passengers. The interior design balances comfort and practicality, with higher trims offering Nappa leather seating, heated and ventilated front seats, and water-repellent StarTex® upholstery in the Wilderness trim. With up to 75.7 cubic feet of cargo space when the rear seats are folded, the Outback can handle everyday errands and outdoor adventures.

The 2026 Subaru Outback prioritizes safety with its standard EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, which now includes a third wide-angle camera to improve the detection of cyclists and pedestrians at intersections. Standard features include adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and pre-collision braking. Higher trims add Blind-Spot Detection, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Emergency Stop Assist, which can bring the vehicle to a controlled stop if the driver becomes unresponsive. The DriverFocus® Distraction Mitigation System remains a key feature on upper trims, using facial recognition to detect signs of fatigue.
